How It Works

This is a 3-on-3 draft tournament.  There are 16 teams in the tournament, each will consist of 6 players and 1 goaltender.  Each of the 16 teams will be assigned a General Manager prior to the start of registration.  The GM may be a player, goalie or a non-playing GM.  The non-playing GM's must find a player to take their place as their team's "starting player".

112 total playing spots are available for this tournament (96 players, 16 goalies)...meaning, that at the start of registration, there will be just 96 available spots to be filled (16 already accounted for by the GM's).  There will be an initial sign up period reserved for those players who played in the most recent tournament to return if they so wish.  Once that period expires, we will fill the remaining spots on a first-come, first-served basis.  A spot is only held for you once we've received your $80 entry fee (payable by etransfer to oshl@hotmail.ca).

Because goaltender spots are in such high demand, once returning goaltenders have had their opportunity to sign up, we will open up a designated window of time for all goalies who wish to put their names in a draw for the remaining spots.  Keep an eye on the main page of the website for the exact dates.

Once all spots are filled, players can still sign up to be on our waiting list (accompanied by their $80 etransfer registration fee, we won't accept the etransfer unless a spot opens up for you).  Again, this will be first-come, first-serve.

The tournament is a one-day event.  The 16 teams are broken into 4 divisions (A,B,C and D) of 4 teams.  The divisions are randomly drawn a few weeks prior to each tournament.  Teams will play each team in their own division once, for a total of 3 round-robin games.  The top teams in each division, plus the 3rd place team in each conference (AB, CD), is given a bye to the quarter-finals.  The 4th and 5th place team's in both conferences will meet up in a wild-card game to determine the final entrant into the quarter-finals.  Quarter-finals will feature the top seed vs the wildcard winner, and 2 vs 3.  Winners advance to their respective conference finals for a chance to earn the right to play in the Legacy Cup Finals.

Games consist of two 15-minute halves (run-time).  With a tie in round-robin moving the game to an automatic shoot-out.  Regulation wins are worth 3 pts, shoot-out win is worth 2 pts, and shoot -out loss will be worth 1 pt.  Rules generally follow the same format as the Play-On tournament.  For a detailed explanation of rules click HERE.

The OSHL Draft Lottery takes place the Sunday night prior to the tournament.  At this time balls will be drawn to determine the initial order of the Draft.  The Draft is a snake draft that lasts 6 rounds.

The OSHL Draft takes place on the Thursday night prior to the tournament.   After the completion of the OSHL Draft Lottery, the GM's are now free to trade draft picks (must be equal number of picks in the exchange).   They may also trade players that they have drafted up until the time determined by the Commish (usually noon on Friday).  The Draft will take place at O2's this year (location TBD).  It's a great chance to come out, meet your teammates and opponents, and maybe win some prizes!
